Educational - Historical - Observational - and, Above All, Terrific Humor

A British Sailor’s Odyssey tells the tale of how Martin Fisher battled through a really tough childhood to emerge from a chrysalis of a scholarship to the Royal Navy and a place at Cambridge University. This led to a successful Navy career and a MSc in Guided Weapons. Martin then went to the US of A to be a major Missile program manager.

Green Card – Citizenship – Secret Clearance – Executive

"The Americanization" takes Martin's US life from immigrant with a new Green Card to US Citizenship to US Secret Clearance to Boeing Executive.

It covers three careers. Martin rapidly became a Vice President at Delex Systems where he led the tactics, training, and training systems business sector for the US Navy and 24 international countries. He then was recruited by McDonnell Douglas (later Boeing) where he designed and led the Harpoon Block II program which bought another 20 years missile production and provided factory workers with 20 years jobs.

After Boeing bought McDonnell Douglas, Martin became Head of all Missiles Business Development, then Head of Europe Business Development, before he retired to found his Consulting Company.

Understanding 400 Year-Old Royal Navy Slang

Many organisations have their own insider language/slang. The Pusser (Royal Navy (RN)'s) slang is as good as it gets. It travelled the world gathering inputs from the exotic, now terribly dull, ports in countries like Singapore, Hong Kong, Malta, Mombasa, Sri Lanka, and Gibraltar. With a few unique words, the RN's sister Navies - Royal Canadian Navy, Royal Australian Navy, Royal New Zealand Navy, and South African Navy spoke – and still speak – a similar Pusser dialect as part of the Commonwealth Navy bonds that still bind today.

The lexicon shows 350 instances of the different languages between how the RN speaks and how a 'civvy' (civilian) might speak.

About the Author

Martin arrived in Jacksonville, Florida from Portsmouth UK, by way of Washington DC, St Louis (Missouri), and Richmond, Virginia.  After picking up a MA and BA in Engineering from Cambridge and a MSc in Guided Weapons from the British Army's Shrivenham College, their Royal Navy Lordships sent him to Washington to manage the missile part of the brand-new Royal Navy Sub Harpoon programme, whereby the Nuclear Submarine HMS Churchill came from Glasgow to successfully launch missiles off Los Angeles.

Resigning from the RN at age 34 to emigrate to the US, Martin embarked on a 24-year career as the lead Harpoon tactician for the US Navy and 24 international countries with the last 14 years working as an Executive for Boeing.

Martin’s contribution to the US Navy International Program Office was so significant, he received two Commendations from the US Navy 5 star Chief of Operations.

His next career move was in 2004 to Richmond running his new consulting company. He built up a 20 client base with combined annual revenues of $284B/year. This was when he started lecturing.

One thing that sets Martin apart from most authors is his tremendous sense of humour and his ability to tell seemingly endless funny and occasionally 'tall' stories.
